Nearly 90 percent of the Chinese public is not satisfied with the public disclosure of charity information, according to the China Charity Donation Report 2010 published by the China Charity and Donation Information Center on Dec. 2 in Beijing.
The China Charity and Donation Information Center launch a sample survey on the disclosure status of charity information in China's different regions as well as the different nature and sizes of charitable organizations. There were 99 samples.

The survey shows that 25 percent of China's charitable organizations have high information transparency. The openness of organizations' basic information is most transparent, while transparency of financial information is the lowest.

In addition, the level of transparency of the charitable organizations was analyzed according to scale and regions. The information transparency of charities at the national level tends to be better than their local counterparts. The information transparency of the charitable organizations in eastern China was better than those in central western China.
The survey showed that the openness of China's charitable information has improved in 2010 compared with last year, and transparency awareness of charity increased significantly. About 96 percent of the surveyed organizations believe that open information is very important, and 54 percent of the surveyed public said they are very concerned about the openness of charitable information.
The report revealed that 79 percent and 73 percent of the public want to know the business activity information and financial information, respectively, of the charitable organizations, but the actual transparency of charitable organizations' does not match the expectations of public, and the financial information transparency index was the lowest.
Meanwhile, 23 percent of the charitable organizations do not solicit donors and beneficiaries' opinions before releasing the charity information, and nearly 90 percent of the surveyed public said that they are not satisfied with the transparency of the charity information.
The China Charity and Donation Information Center said that at present, China's whole charity industry lacks unified standards for open information and an open public information platform. Also, charity organizations lack necessary human and material resources for opening information.
