The number of days as of Dec. 4, 2010 that met grade-two standards for air quality and above this year remained around the same level as that in 2009, and there were six more days that met grade-one standards for air quality this year compared with the same period of 2009, according to statistics from the Beijing Municipal Environment Protection Bureau
Various tasks outlined in the 16th phase of air pollution control measures formulated by the Beijing Municipal Government have been implemented, and the work of eliminating high-pollution "yellow-label" cars was also well promoted. By Nov. 26, a total of 40,621 high-pollution "yellow-label" cars were taken off the road, reaching the target of 40,000 established by the Beijing Municipal Government.
Meanwhile, Beijing also actively promoted clean energy transformation to transform coal-fired boilers with a total steam flow of 1,050 tons, and 13,000 households living in the core regions into clean energy boilers. Enterprises such as Beijing Jingneng Thermal Power Corporation and SINOPEC Beijing Yanshan Chemical Corporation have completed the dust removal and desulfurization project and long-term air pollution control also has played an important role in improving the air quality.
Related officials from the Beijing Municipal Environment Protection Bureau said that in 2010, Beijing also launched the environment protection special action plan that aims at "governing enterprises with illegal dredge activities to protect people's health."
A total of more than 39,300 law enforcement officers have been involved in the plan so far and more than 19,700 government units have been inspected. In addition, a total of 414 environmental illegal issues have been investigated and lawbreakers have been punished accordingly, and 407 cases have also been solved.
