China to allocate 800 million yuan for disease prevention: Published: 2010-10-22 Views:75 reads; The central government will allocate a total of over 800 million yuan to 1,156 cities and counties nationwide in 2010 for preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis and the hepatitis B virus, according to information from a national working conference that opened in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on Oct. 19.

The 1,156 cities and counties include parts of Yunnan, Guangxi, Henan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces, where the AIDS epidemic is relatively severe as well as all parts of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, 72 percent of Guangdong Province, the first and second batch of China Comprehensive AIDS Response demonstration areas and the Migrant Workers Health Care pilot areas. Compared to 2009, an additional 200-plus cities and counties will receive subsidies from the central government for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of infectious diseases in 2010.
