They're a popular option for people trying to quit smoking or cut down...Electronic cigarettes.
It's a way for smokers to get their nicotine fix without breaking the law.
In Iowa you can smoke indoors...As long as you are using an electronic cigarette.
"Bar owners, or any business owner can allow their patrons, or otherwise to use E cigarettes," said Brent Saron, from the Iowa Department of Health.
E–cigarettes plug in to a charger. Users get nicotine from inhaling, but no tobacco is burned, and odorless water vapor is exhaled.
Some Sioux City bars they will allow e–cigarette users to smoke indoors.
"If it's not against the law, then yes, we will let people smoke them in here," said Tiffany Nettleton, Manager of Buffalo Alice.
Some bars have received complaints about e–cigarettes.
"The customer that complained didn't think it was fair that somebody gets to smoke an electric cigarette inside, and they can't smoke a regular cigarette," said Paul Anderson, Owner of Firehouse Bar.
In addition to complaints from envious smokers, people could easily mistake e–cigarettes for regular cigarettes.
Should a complaint come, the Department of Health says its investigators are trained to tell the difference between real and electronic cigarettes.
But one e–cigarette user is still not comfortable sitting at a bar with his electronic cigarette.
"I don't need the confrontation that possibly could come about, by somebody not knowing that it was an E–cigarette," said Craig Horrigan.
However, nobody we spoke with had a problem with somebody smoking an e–cigarette indoors...Smoker,
"Absolutely not," said Shaun Klinger.
Or non-smoker,
"If somebody needs nicotine, or whatever, they can get their fix without having to go outside, and you're not harming anybody else, so I really don't take any issue with them," said Tyler Delashmutt.
The overall reaction to e–cigarettes was positive, and the bars we spoke with are not worried about getting too many complaints.
