Tobacco far Less Harmful Than Alcohol

Tobacco has been placed sixth on a table of 20 drugs rated for the harm they cause users and wider society, according to a BBC story quoting a study published in the Lancet.
The study looked at 16 measures of harm including mental and physical damage, addiction, crime and costs to the economy and communities.
The report of the study is co-authored by Professor David Nutt, the former UK chief drugs adviser who was sacked by the former government in October 2009.
Nutt refused to leave the drugs debate when he was sacked from his official post and went on to form the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs, a body which aims to investigate the drug issue without political interference.
One of its other members, Dr. Les King, is another former government adviser who quit over Nutt's treatment.
Alcohol came out on top of the harm table, ahead of heroin, crack, methyl amphetamine, cocaine, tobacco, amphetamine and cannabis.
Tobacco was fourth - behind alcohol, heroin and crack - on the table of the harm caused to others.
