Disclosure requirements and smoke-free certifications could help protect buyers of used cars from tobacco smoke pollution (TSP), according to a report by Nicotine and Tobacco Research (NTR).
Such requirements, the report said, could empower buyers "to request non-smoking environments" or a discount on cars that had been smoked in previously.
NTR says that, according to its findings, smokers can prevent their cars from becoming contaminated with residual TSP by reducing or ceasing their smoking.
However, it warns that commonly-used cleaning and ventilation methods do not decrease contamination levels.
