E-cigarettes approval rate goes up

Electronic cigarettes are becoming known as highly accepted, smoker approved and alternative to tobacco. This new electronic smoking alternative looks and feels like a cigarette.  However, instead of burning tobacco and producing smoke, it vaporizes a nicotine liquid called e-liquid into a tar free, and odorless vapor.

The vapor is produced automatically during every puff of the electronic cigarette. A sensor detects every drag of the e-cigarette. Once activated, the end gradually starts to glow reddish orange resembling that of real smoking.  It is so identical to the real thing that many smokers make the switch after the first try.

Electronic cigarettes never have to be lit.  They do not produce cigarette butts or ash, they will not smell up a house or car, and they greatly reduce the risk of fire.  A substantial amount of money can be saved when compared to buying traditional packs because only refillable cartridges are purchased.  These are much cheaper overall.

Using atomization technology to bypass the need to burn tobacco, e-cigs rapidly heats up a specially blended liquid nicotine solution.  This causes vaporization and will change the state of matter from liquid to vapor.  Just like they would normally smoke, the user then inhales the vapor.

In a study that measured electronic cigarettes’ effectiveness as a cessation technique, researchers at Boston University sent surveys to 5,000 people who had bought e-cigarettes.   Nearly 70% of the 216 respondents replied that they’d cut down on cigarettes after six months.  30% said they’d quit.

In September 2010, FDA warned the e-cigarette distributors for “unsubstantiated claims and poor manufacturing practices.  The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled soon after that the FDA does not have the power to regulate e-cigarettes as a drug.
