Jordan's Ministry of Health is to use a special machine provided by the World Health Organization and the US' Johns Hopkins University in a study to gauge levels of air pollution caused by smoking, according to a Zawya.com story quoting a ministry official.
Bassam Hijjawi, director of the ministry's Primary Healthcare Directorate, told The Jordan Times the study would be conducted in public places, including at some ministries, on public transport and in restaurants.
"We want to know the level of pollution in these places and will come up with recommendations based on the results," he said.
The study, which is expected to take three months, will focus also on the impact of passive smoking on people's health.
